Question

Could it be that the liberation of the Israelites from the oppression of the Egyptians was primarily a spiritual liberation, with release from political and social oppression as by-products of this?

Hmmm.....

In the modern western world we have catergories like spiritual, political and social.I do not think that this modern western worldview does justice to the OT or NT. I do not think they would share our assumptions. Creation and covenant should be kept together. Does this make sense?

This is what I had in mind. However, perhaps it could be argued that at the crux of the ancient Near Eastern worldview was an understanding of the divine. Perhaps it wasn't that all realms were equal or even interrelated but that they all tied into and were centrally based upon an understanding of deity. Perhaps it's not that everything has a spiritual aspect, but that everything is spiritual. So the spiritual liberation is the essence of liberation, the central piece..?
